Tāheke marae exists to manaaki the hapū of Ngāti Pākau, Te Māhurehure, Te Uri Kaiwhare and manuhiri to the rohe of the iwi of Ngāpuhi.
The whare was built around 1920 and was used as a hall and picture theatre for community purposes. The land was set aside as a Māori reserve for marae and community purposes on the 12th September 1951.
It was developed throughout the 1950s along with sports and meeting facilities in the area. The current ablution block was constructed in the 1960s followed by a new wharekai in the late 1990s.
